FitFreaks: Who, What, Why

Well I am guessing you clicked on this link to find out what this site is about, but first let me tell you who we are and why this blog even exists.

Vanessa Wrobel and Tara Pichelmeyer. Two girls who became very close friends and who are now roommates. What they have in common… a very strong passion towards fitness and a healthy lifestyle all around.

Why start a blog?: Our goal is to inspire and inform people that there is more than just one way to look at fitness. We are two completely different athletes and have our own perspectives on fitness and nutrition, but we are always open to each other’s thoughts and ideas. This blog is meant to help those individuals who always second guess the information they read on the internet about health and fitness. We are constantly researching and learning from professionals to help ourselves grow. Fitness is what introduced our friendship and it has kept us together and most likely will for the rest of our lives. Just like you, we are constantly learning, and our goal is to share our knowledge and to keep you updated on the information we get from research,  professionals, or just our own advice. In no way are we suggesting you should follow by our words, because you will find out that within this blog there will be more than just discussion topics on articles or the next fad. We will have an athlete of the week (from the college level and up), recipes, and also a workout of the day.

Want to know more? Please keep reading, if not that is totally ok!

We want to inspire and make a difference. Fitness and a healthy lifestyle is what we love and is something that we are thankful for. Whether you are just beginning your fitness journey or at your peak, join us in our journey to challenge ourselves every day and to watch us follow our dream of connecting fitness into our future careers.

Lets meet the fitness freaks:

Vanessa

Vanessa Wrobel: A very independent individual who doesn’t back down to anything.

Info:

Occupation: Student, Personal Trainer at BodyWorks

Hobbies: Soccer, painting (when I have time), outdoor runs, cleaning/cooking, workouts, researching, spending time with family.

Favorite workout: Leg Day! Back squats, split lunges, Tabata sprints, plank abs, leg press, jump rope, jumping lunges, cross lunges)

Ideal Career:

Performance Specialist (speed and agility, movement prep, video analysis, and conditioning and video analysis.)

“I want to be able to do everything whether that is working with an individual or an entire team, but I would like to focus more on athletes.”

“I met Vanessa her freshman year of college. We played soccer together until I decided to take a break from the game. We talked and interacted in practice and team activities but it wasn’t until her and some of my other teammates joined me in a workout that I was big into at the time called “Bodyrock” that we started to realize we had a lot in common. I’ve always know that I’ve been a pretty determined individual, but my level of determination didn’t match what Vanessa had and it felt good to know somebody that could challenge me and push me to my limits. Her work ethic is something that you won’t find in most students/individuals our age and that is an awesome quality to have. Her motivation and strength in the gym matches the level she has in whatever she does. I envy how powerful this girl is with weights, and pretty much any workout she does. Her major of Health Wellness & Fitness is a perfect match and I am excited to see how successful she is going to be in the years to come” -Roommate and friend, Tara Pichelmeyer.–

Vanessa’s input on nutrition:

“Whatever works for your body. I’ve tried diets, meal plans, counting calories, basically everything in the book, and I found it best to eat in a way that your body responds the best too.  Eat to build strength (high protein diets), eat to maintain energy and eat to feel good inside and out. You don’t realize that the bad foods you are eating are affecting you until you try eating healthy.  I am a user and distributor of Herbalife products and currently use the 24 line and the Formula 1 line for daily meal shakes. I go for a variety when I eat, such as colors (veggies, fruits) I also go for lean meats of any kind and whole grains and whole foods. Don’t freak out when you have a burger or a piece of chocolate once in a while.  Your body is not used to the bad foods and will get rid of it right away.  If you keep active and treat your body well 90% of the time, you can reward yourself 10% of that time.  Keep the C.R.A.P. out of your diet. (C) for Caffeinated Foods, (r) for Refined Food, (A) for Alcohol and Artificial Sugars, and (P) Processed foods.”

Ideal Career: Sales and Marketing position in a health and fitness industry. Head of marketing for a supplement company or gym would be awesome.

“When someone asks what my ideal career choice is.. all I can say is, is that I want to dominate in the Sales and Marketing position. I want people to respect me and to not underestimate me when I walk into a room. I want to be successful in everything I do. I want to be super passionate about what it is that I am marketing and selling. I know that maybe my future career won’t involve fitness or nutrition but I will work my butt off to somehow connect the two. I currently am doing a Sales and Marketing Internship at a fitness establishment that offers a lot of ways for me to connect Sales and Marketing with fitness and nutrition and I am very excited!

It is always hard to write about ourselves especially when it comes to being positive. I’ve always had a passion for fitness. Sports were pretty much my life in middle and high school, and still are in my college years. I had very supportive parents who pushed me to constantly improve. My passion became an obsession, and at times it got the best of me. I was really big into running, sometimes too much. I would run for two hours straight and still have the urge to keep going. I was into boxing for a while, and then I kept my focus on soccer as I planned to tryout for the University of Wisconsin-Stout’s soccer team as a walk on. I was expecting not to make it, and I did, and I played quite a bit. I loved the game. I left the game for a while due to personal issues and am glad to say that I will be playing again in the Fall of ’14 for my last year of school. Besides my mother that is one of my biggest inspirations, fitness and overall health is what keeps me determined and inspired. My mom is the biggest reason why I am so determined, stubborn, and always on the go. I’m very competitive, and I love the feeling of success whether it is with a workout, in school, or bringing money home at the end of a bar tending shift. When I workout I think of those that are not as fortunate and I push myself for them, and to prove to myself that I can do anything. Were given these healthy bodies, and all these resources to become the strongest we can be and most of us ignore all of it. I embrace it, I love waking up in the morning and feeling that soreness, or being on that field working with a team to accomplish a great thing. Some don’t understand, and that’s what I want out of this blog, is for those who don’t understand to get inspired and to think about what they can do to better themselves.

“Tara and I were teammates first, workout partners second and then friends.  After our first season together ended, is when we really discovered each others love for fitness.  We started training for the off season together and through that, is how we became friends.  Right from the start, Tara and I had different views on fitness and different ways of training, but instead of arguing about the differences, we learned from them.  I loved having someone that could push me past my limits and remind me to be open to new ways of training.  Tara’s ambitions and dreams surpass anything that is seen in the average college student her age.  The amount of talent this girl carries, whether it be photography, marketing, her vision for  her future or her determination in the weight room, its unbelievable to see.   No matter what she ends up doing,  she will succeed and continue moving forward to do great things.                                                                                                                                         -Roommate, friend and biggest fan, Vanessa Wrobel.-

Tara’s input on nutrition:

“ I’ve put myself through every extreme it seems like. Extreme dieting, eating disorders, meal plans for a Figure Show, and to be honest I still don’t know what works best for me. The whole meal plan from when I did my first Figure Show worked because it helped with me getting over some of the eating disorder habits, but as I get back in Soccer that’s not what is working for me. Eating pure, natural foods is what I find that helps keep me sane and feeling the greatest. Healthy fats from avocados, nuts, coconut oil (the best!) and yolks. I still toy around with the whole low carb- high fat diet vs the high carb low fat stuff that most bodybuilders do and I am starting to realize that doing two days of low carbs and high fats and then the third day doing a complete carb reload is what gives me a huge burst of energy. All in all every single person is different. Vanessa and I eat very similar but some things that she eats I can’t handle and vice verse. Our fridge and cupboards are filled with fresh foods, and yes we do grocery shop a lot, and that is when you know that pretty much all your food is extremely fresh. Do we cheat.. oh yes we do. Were all humans, have that piece of chocolate, have some pizza, whatever your craving may be go eat and be done with it. Tomorrow is a new day and you can start all over. People run into the problem of eating crap every single day and getting off track. Our brains need fats like butter once in a while to function properly but back to the phrase that everyone should follow, “everything in moderation.” Nutrition is key for me, and should be for everyone. I am constantly doing research and asking advice and just making sure I eat for energy not eat just to eat. Keep your plate colorful, your carbohydrates are not the bun from the burger or a ton of bread it is going to be brown rice, sweet potatoes, fruit, rice cakes and a whole bunch of other healthy carbs that will fill you up and give you the energy that your body needs. Experimenting is the best way to find out what works. Most likely I’ll be trying something new in a couple weeks, but that’s the fun of it!”

Now that you know who we are and why we are starting this blog, what we have to offer you…
